🌍 Why Sustainability Matters – And Why ‘The Clear Out Store’ Exists

When I launched The Clear Out Store, I wasn’t just opening a store, I was answering a problem I saw around me every day. As a mother of four, I know how quickly children grow and how expensive (and exhausting!) it can be to constantly replace clothing. I also saw how difficult it was to find a convenient and affordable way to access good-quality second-hand clothes locally, let alone earn a bit back by selling the clothes we no longer needed.

At the same time, I’ve always had a deep passion for living sustainably. And when I looked at the bigger picture of what’s happening in the fashion industry, particularly fast fashion, I knew I had to do something more meaningful. The Clear Out Store was born to tackle two issues at once: helping families access affordable, quality clothing and reducing our impact on the planet.

👕 The True Cost of Clothing

It’s easy to buy a £3 T-shirt and think you’ve got a bargain. But that “cheap” shirt often comes at a high cost, just not to the person buying it.

Behind many fast fashion items lies a chain of poor working conditions, extremely low wages, and even child labour. Millions of garment workers in countries like Bangladesh, India, and Cambodia earn less than a living wage to produce clothes for global brands. Their safety, rights, and dignity are often compromised, just so that the fashion cycle can keep spinning faster.

Add to that the environmental damage: it’s estimated that 92 million tonnes of textile waste is generated globally every year. That’s a truckload of clothes dumped every second.

🌱 Why Second-Hand Clothing Is Powerful

That’s why buying second-hand isn’t just a money-saver, it’s a powerful choice. Choosing preloved clothing reduces demand for new production, keeps clothes out of landfills, and gives garments a second life. It’s one of the simplest but most impactful things we can do to fight fashion waste.

At The Clear Out Store, every single item is checked and washed before it hits our online shelves. We only list clothing that we would proudly wear ourselves. Our range spans from brand-new items with tags to gently worn clothes in excellent condition.
